The paper is structured as follows. Section 2 sets forth a careful review of the main arguments put forward ex ante for and against the Euro for the Italian economy, with particular attention to the South. Section 3 presents a “balance sheet”, examining the impact of the single currency on the economy of the South. The last, Section 4, draws some conclusions.
