Veterinary practitioners should always consider their professional ethical obligations and their legal obligations when advertising services. There are risks that false, misleading or deceptive advertising can lead to the indiscriminate or unnecessary provision of animal health services, or create unrealistic expectations about the benefits, likelihood of success and safety of such services, with possible adverse consequences for consumers. There is potential for inaccurate or misleading advertising of veterinary services to cause harm to consumers. This is particularly relevant in cases in which the consumer may be vulnerable or not sufficiently well informed to make a decision about the suitability of certain types of services. For this reason, the FNOVI has introduced a new article and developed guidelines that aim to support the provisions of the National Law no. 248/2006 (so called Bersani Decree), to protect the public from advertising. The article provides an analysis of the current nation law in the field of health advertisingand it also values the lights and shadows of Bersani decree.
