Abstract
The old town centres in the area of Nebrodis and Peloritans (Messina) grew in the shade of a common history and, while apparently similar, a closer look reveals countless variations. These differences are determined not only by the specific resources of the place where they are located, but also from contamination following lines of development coinciding with the historic roads that run through the area, connecting the different historical centers. The history of Sicily, probably due to the central position of the island in the Mediterranean, has seen a succession of many cultures that, especially since the high Middle Ages, stratified resulting in typological solutions and construction methods which make the physic essence of the cultural identity of a place. The proposed contribution aims to explore, both through archival and bibliographic data available and by field surveys, the system of historic roads highlighting the relation with the characteristics of vernacular architecture that insists on the territory of the Nebrodis and Peloritans .Pubblicazioni consigliate
