The paper analyses the literary language according to the metaphorical linguistic theory, and develops the hypothesis that literature is the best metaphor of the human life written into a culture. The differences between ordinary language and literary language are explained from the point of view of the prototypical theory, applied to a cultural paradigm which models the human thought and by which the whole world’s imagination depends. Literary language is the de-sublimation of this paradigm reached through prototypical metaphors.
