This paper sets out to investigate word patterns, and in particular noun–verb patterns, as a means of developing lessical cognition in the first phase of Second Language acquisition. The Russian–Italian dictionary of noun–verb collocations, edited by the professors of the Department of Russian at the university of Messina is suggested as a didactic support for learning Russian words patterns. The innovation of this bilingual dictionary consists in the fact that, besides providing the collocations combinatory characteristics, it also accounts for grammatical ones, that until now have not been taken into consideration by traditional dictionaries.
