Abstract
Parts of the city, seen in the overall built as a unique body, can give the measure of how it is still alive. The town offers to the draftsman countless sparks to reread its true identity rather than seeing it as composed by different detached shreds. So the survey drawing can be an efficient tool for the urban reading, tended to a planning will that arises from the unitary perception of the context. Cities are palimpsests, on which the scientific attention of the scholar and the inexhaustible curiosity of the citizen, who lives the spaces that frequents, is focused. Even now, within the historic center of Messina, there are shacks and buildings, mostly crumbling, leaning against the sixteenth century fortifications. They have been used even before the earthquake as supports for parts of the above-mentioned constructions. In these structures and in the labyrinth of streets and courtyards that they engender, the draftsman can get in and document some of their portions or extract those elements that tell their story, in which lights and shadows, wonders and disappointments, redemption and rebirth opportunities, provisional contradictions or permanent disappointments are highlighted.Pubblicazioni consigliate
