The present book is a comparative-law examination of the development of a wide-ranging participatory conception of criminal proceedings that has occurred both in Europe and Latin America. The research is carried out at the domestic level on the basis of the experience of two countries, namely Italy and Brazil. The comparative analysis follows three main perspectives, namely the viewpoint of domestic (procedural and constitutional) law, international human rights law and EU law. The ultimate purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of these developments in order to define the minimum qualitative requirements that should nowadays guide a participatory model of domestic and transnational criminal justice.
