Du discours spécialisé au discours romanesque: sur l'élaboration du chapitre II de "Bouvard et Pécuchet"

Résumé À l’appui des informations provenant des dossiers documentaires et des brouillons du roman posthume de Gustave Flaubert, cet article reconstruit la genèse du chapitre II et, en particulier, de la séquence dans laquelle les deux protagonistes, occupés à tailler les arbres fruitiers, subissent l’énième échec de leur aventure agricole. De la première idée à peine esquissée en 1863 au long parcours accidenté dans l’écriture problématique des brouillons, l’attention constante que Flaubert porte aux modalités d’intégration du discours spécialisé au discours romanesque est le fil rouge qui guide la textualisation de la séquence analysée. La composante terminologique du secteur de l’arboriculture fruitière, que l’écrivain a minutieusement rassemblée dans ses notes de lecture, devient ainsi la trame d’un tissu narratif et linguistique que l’auteur met au service de son ambitieux projet de revue critique des savoirs de son temps. Abstract Based on information coming from documentary dossiers and from brouillon of Gustave Flaubert’s posthumous novel, this paper reconstructs the genesis of the second chapter and, in particular, of the sequence in which the two protagonists are devoted to trimming fruit trees and then caught in an umpteenth failure. From the first idea barely sketched in 1863 to the long and difficult journey that characterizes the problematic writing of these brouillon, the constant attention that Flaubert dedicates to the mode of integration of specialized discourse to literary discourse is the fil rouge that orients the textuality of the whole sequence. The terminological component of the fruit farming area, which the writer has thoroughly annotated in his reading notes, becomes the weave of a narrative and linguistic textuality that the author employs in his ambitious project of critical showcase for the knowledge of his time.
