The media daily warn that in many cities of the industrialized countries, have high levels of pollution, that expose to substantial health risks inhabitants. With the latest directives, the countries participating in the International Treaty, to combat global warming, have imposed the deadlines for reducing emissions of pollutants and also set more stringent values for emission values in pollutants. Within the project SET -Systems and Transportation Environment-friendly and Eco Efficient- which aims the objective "Study and implementation of an innovative system of environmental monitoring," the authors have developed a research whose results are here presented. In this work, it is proposed an innovative system for monitoring at a small scale of the main pollutants which represent a considerable risk to human health. The proposed system for the control and monitoring of pollutants in urban areas is based on the use of modern sensors, installed on city transport (tram, bus). The sensors detect acquires and transmits at intervals of time (small scale),data to control systems detected in the different parts of the city, on the way from city transport; with such data are generated representative maps of the levels of urban pollution, which may serve for actions of first responders or steps to be taken when the values of pollutants exceed danger levels.
