In this paper a new architecture for Wireless Sensors and Actuators Network (WSAN) is proposed, which is specifically suited to the paradigm of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Starting from a detailed analysis of the requirements of industrial applications, a complete solution for IIoT is devised, which is able to cope with the main challenges of industrial environments. In comparison with other standards and commercial solutions, the proposed architecture offers several advantages: it is based on open source software and communication protocols; it encompasses reliability and discovery mechanisms; it provides a graphic tool for network set-up and maintenance. Conversely to several other papers, all aspects of the proposed architecture are discussed, from hardware specifications to software applications, communication protocols and implementation issues.
