The present paper analyzes the problem of the definition of religion in English case law. Case law witnesses the long process of evolution concerning the meaning of religion in the English legal system. In the past it was connected to a set of shared values and to its national Christian identity. Multiculturalism, globalization and secularism has led to a weakening of such a traditional approach, in view of the new needs of coping with religious diversity.
