Generally we are used to understand pathological situations such as deafness, autism or aphasia only relying to scientific literature and to the reports of the specialists, without listening to the voice of those who live on their skin a condition far from easy, however undergoing impositions and the choices of the hearing that often concerned about ‘normalizing’ and make the deaf as much as possible ‘hearing’ do not care of his real and specific needs. These pages examine the issue of deafness starting from the personal accounts of the deaf and the difficulties of communication and interaction related to their disease. The aim is try to understand and explain what it means to be deaf and what are the linguistic and cognitive implications of this particular mode of existence, through the testimonies of those who live a condition characterized by the inability to listen and therefore to articulate spontaneously speech sounds.
