As it is already known in recent decades, environmental sustainability policies have made indispensable, and in many cases mandatory, a development process based on the limitation of energy consumption from fossil sources, responsible for the natural imbalance that characterizes these years. The construction sector is the most responsible for CO2 emissions; in fact over 50% of the built dates back to have been built before L. 373/76, and the buildings of historical interest are about 8% of the total. The present work aims to combine the improvement of the performance of the historical architectural heritage with the correct protection of its artistic and cultural peculiarities, with the aim of guaranteeing new levels of thermo -hygrometric wellbeing. The cognitive investigations to be carried out on the building - environmental, constructive, energetic - allow to establish the priorities of action and to identify quality interventions able to promote a reduction in consumption, an improvement of internal comfort and energy performance, while respecting the characteristics history of the artefact
