Since we became aware of the energy problem (however, late) decades have passed in which the demand for building performance has increased (NZeB), the market supply has grown considerably (thinner insulators, smart doors and windows) and both the theoretical awareness and the availability of software has improved too. However, there are still, and perhaps they are worsening, some problems related in particular to the provision of bonuses and economic incentives and to the (in-)ability to conceive comprehensive interventions. In this respect, some partial operations, which also had a significant number of achievements and even benefited from subsidised loans and tax relieves - such as the mere replacement of old windows with high-performance ones or the insulation of some walls, for example only those in the North - have shown their limits over time and sometimes they even adversely affected the building. Thus, we consider worthwhile to examine some cases of interventions on residential buildings that have failed to meet expectations and to suggest corrective solutions.
