This volume, which results from my dissertation work done during my Ph.D. in Studi Mesopotamici at the Istituto Universitario Orientale of Naples, gives publication to 154 tablets coming from the bīt asīrī, dated to the reign of Rīm-Anum, and to one text with the same origin, dated 8th year of Samsu-iluna of Babylon (1749-1712 B.C.). In addition to the edition of these texts, my work tries to shed some light on a very difficult time in Old Babylonian history: the revolt of Southern Mesopotamia against Babylonian domination, occurred during the years 8th-10th of Samsu-iluna. The publication of the present volume has been possible thanks to the Trustees of the British Museum, who kindly allowed me to study and to publish the texts held at the Museum. Immense gratitude goes to Dr. C.B.F. Walker for his welcome manner, helpfulness and advice during my work in the Student Room. To Prof. M. Stol I owe great thanks for his kind and careful supervision of the transliteration of the texts and his help with the most uncommon anthroponyms. I am furthermore grateful to Prof. D. Charpin, Prof. G. del Monte, and Dr. S.F.C. Richardson for reading the manuscript and giving important advice on it. Moreover, I thank Prof. R. Contini, Prof. S. Graziani and Dr. G. Lacerenza (committee members at my final Ph.D. defence) for reading this volume and giving interesting feedback for a further revision of the manuscript. A special thank goes to Prof. M. Caltabiano, Director of the Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Antichità, and the Council of the Department for accepting to publish this volume in the Series Nisaba, Studi Assiriologici Messinesi.
