The detection of carbon oxides (CO and CO2) is of outmost importance in the biomedical field. In this respect, here, it is presented a simple and low cost conductometric sensor based on Al-Mg-ZnO thick film for the detection of both gases on the same sensor platform. The ternary Al-Mg-ZnO sensing materials, containing 5%of Al and different Mg loading (1, 3 and 5%), were synthesized by a simple sol-gel method and characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD). Preliminary sensing tests here reported, indicated that the developed sensor shows good characteristics for detecting simultaneously CO and CO2, which could be of practical application in the biomedical field. © 2020 IEEE.
