What we know about coin circulation during Roman Imperial times in Sicily is quite lacunose. This is the result, as far as Sicily is concerned, of an ‘old prejudice’ against Roman coins, which were considered unattractive—especially those of the late Empire—when compared to Greek coins which were then widely and deeply studied. To fill the gap in knowledge of the numismatic characteristics of the region from the Tyrrhenian shores of eastern Sicily to the Nebrodi Mountains, a natural border facing the coastal strip, here are presented some coin finds from various excavations of the past few decades in the mentioned area.

Abstract
What we know about coin circulation during Roman Imperial times in Sicily is quite lacunose. This is the result, as far as Sicily is concerned, of an ‘old prejudice’ against Roman coins, which were considered unattractive—especially those of the late Empire—when compared to Greek coins which were then widely and deeply studied. To fill the gap in knowledge of the numismatic characteristics of the region from the Tyrrhenian shores of eastern Sicily to the Nebrodi Mountains, a natural border facing the coastal strip, here are presented some coin finds from various excavations of the past few decades in the mentioned area.File in questo prodotto:
