The literature about the Building dossier displays a greater and more comprehensible attention to the assessment of the state of affairs of an edifice, examining in depth the technical-constructive aspects and the problems of safety; conversely, a marginal interest is reserved to the historical-critical analysis, preliminary phase for any recovery or restoration to retrace the history of a construction. In a recent publication on this dossier a structure model has been proposed but it does not contain direct and exhaustive references to historical documentary sources, except for a simple field introduced at the end of the sheet about the technological survey in which the transformation of construction elements over time is considered. Downstream of the critical evaluation of the efficacy of this model, a different organization is suggested investigating the specific contents and items to structure a new chapter entitled "Case history", in order to conduct historical-critical analysis. The criterion to manage information has been deduced from the study of the archival sources of a sample of residential buildings of Messina, built after the earthquake of 1908, identifying the purposes, contents and relative organization of this chapter. An effective and efficient management of these contents can be done with the use of information tools, in this case the GIS (Geographic Information System), through which to gather and rearrange documents, coming from different archives, and then try to create a digital and multimedia version of the Building Dossier.
