In the 1930s there was a widespread use of stone coatings for shells of public buildings, for which the simple plaster finishes could not have recalled the centrality of the Fascist Regime. The design presupposed the respect of compositional rules based on the adoption of modules described in the so-called "abacuses of stones"; these abacuses, in which generic information on the type of material used in the project were reported, guided the installation since the positioning of sheets, conformed according to the geometric characteristics of the surface to be covered, was univocally defined. Therefore, if this operative tool is indispensable for the design and construction of a coating, why is it not generally adopted and updated during maintenance phase to provide documentary evidence of its evolution? To this end, thinking of the informative vocation of BIM, the autarchic covering of the Station of Messina has been modelled, generating a digital and more complete abacus of stones, which could also collect data necessary for punctual maintenance interventions to protect historical, technical, and cultural peculiarities.

Abstract
To this end, thinking of the informative vocation of BIM, the autarchic covering of the Station of Messina has been modelled, generating a digital and more complete abacus of stones, which could also collect data necessary for punctual maintenance interventions to protect historical, technical, and cultural peculiarities.Pubblicazioni consigliate
