The research work presented in this paper focuses on a novel near-lossless compression algorithm which can be efficiently used for compression of electroencephalograph (EEG) signals. In particular, our proposed scheme aims to achieve a very low complexity solution suitable for wearable EEG monitoring systems. The algorithm is mostly based on a simple and efficient encoding scheme which can be easily implemented even in resources constrained microcontrollers. Despite its simplicity, comparison results provided for several real-world datasets, show that the proposed algorithm achieves compression ratios comparable with more complex state-of-the-art solutions.

Abstract
The research work presented in this paper focuses on a novel near-lossless compression algorithm which can be efficiently used for compression of electroencephalograph (EEG) signals. In particular, our proposed scheme aims to achieve a very low complexity solution suitable for wearable EEG monitoring systems. The algorithm is mostly based on a simple and efficient encoding scheme which can be easily implemented even in resources constrained microcontrollers. Despite its simplicity, comparison results provided for several real-world datasets, show that the proposed algorithm achieves compression ratios comparable with more complex state-of-the-art solutions.Pubblicazioni consigliate
