This study explores the intersection of Smart Tourism Destinations (STDs) and disability inclusion, investigating how the "smartness" of a destination can enhance tourism experiences for people with disabilities (PwDs). Using a cross-fertilization approach that bridges theory and practice, this research examines how smart solutions can address the unique needs of PwDs. The study is grounded in the Amsterdam case study, showcasing the city's accessibility-oriented services and data-driven infrastructure. Findings highlight the role of real-time information access and dynamic data platforms in facilitating inclusive tourism by enabling stakeholders to predict and respond to visitor needs and enhancing service integration and customization. Amsterdam’s example demonstrates that STDs can significantly reduce barriers—physical, environmental, economic, and social—that typically hinder PwDs from fully engaging in tourism. This research contributes to the field by offering a foundational understanding of how smart technologies can shape accessible tourism, serving as a valuable resource for scholars and a strategic tool for practitioners aiming to develop inclusive tourism policies.
