Hadronic resonances have been shown to be good probes to investigate the late-stage evolution of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. They have lifetimes comparable with the time scale of the fireball formed in these collisions and, therefore, they are sensitive to the competing re-scattering and regeneration effects in the hadronic phase, which modify the particle momentum distributions and yields after hadronization. Measurements of the production of resonances having different lifetimes, masses, quark content and quantum numbers can provide information on such various aspects of heavy-ion collisions as the dynamical evolution and lifetime of the hadronic phase, strangeness production and processes that determine the shape of particle momentum spectra. Furthermore, measurements of resonance production in pp collisions at different multiplicities permit to highlight the possible onset of collective effects in small systems. Some of the main ALICE results on hadronic resonance production in pp, p-Pb, Pb-Pb and Xe-Xe collisions at different collision energies, with particular focus on charged and neutral K∗ production, will be presented.
