In the framework of the EU Seveso III Directive, inspectors must assess whether the ageing management plan of equipment is adequate for the prevention of chemical accidents. To do that, since 2018, Seveso inspectors used a shortcut method, based on the Ageing Fishbone approach. After a couple of years of application throughout the Italian Seveso sites, strengths and weaknesses of the method have been assessed by a SWOT analysis in order to identify the improvements to introduce in the second version to be released within 2020. The new release of method, previously limited to static primary containment systems (pipes and vessels), has been extended to rotating systems while maintaining the simplicity and objectivity of the method. Further improvements have been added to facilitate the application in different types of establishment.
