L’intervento come contenitore delle tracce del tempo nel restauro delle superfici dell’ex palazzo postelegrafonico di Messina

Stringent reflections about the meaning it would make for the city and the people living in it determined the intervention of restoration carried out on the former telegraphic building. Starting from the metric survey, through the analysis of materials, the least invasive methods of intervention were identified to balance the needs of energy improvement and safety without compromising the preservation of the building's authenticity. In particular, from the results of material tests, different types of interventions were performed, always with the aim of preserving the original surfaces. In fact, they had to be distinguishable from the new, in an attempt to imitate, as much as possible, the historic mortars and bricks in their current state of preservation. Precisely in view of this, the preservation of surviving traces and past interventions was taken as evidence of the historical events that have affected both the building and the entire city in the last century
