Un vaso alabastrino e una coppa in cristallo di rocca dall’antica Capua. Il monumento funerario in località ponte di San Prisco

Unpublished documents, kept in the Archive of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale of Naples, allow to reconstruct the archaeological context of the famous rock crystal skyphos-cup from ancient Capua alongside an alabaster krater, used as a cinerary urn - masterfully restored in recent times - found in a tomb together with the skyphos-cup. The archive documents give important information about the typology of this funerary monument and about its real topographical position. The aim of this paper is to try to give these extraordinary artistic artifacts a new interpretation and to prove the important social and ideological meaning of these objects in the funerary context of ancient Roman Capua. Moreover, it is possible to iden- tify a link between the architectural typology of the monument, the funerary ritual and the luxurious objects buried inside the tomb. Finally, this monument represents a great example of the funerary and cultural traditions of the Roman Campania between the late Republican and the early Imperial times. Documenti inediti, conservati presso l'Archivio del Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, consentono di ricostruire il contesto archeologico della famosa coppa-skyphos in cristallo di rocca proveniente dall'antica Capua accanto a un cratere in alabastro, utilizzato come urna cineraria - magistralmente restaurato in tempi recenti - rinvenuto in una tomba insieme alla coppa-skyphos. I documenti d'archivio forniscono importanti informazioni sulla tipologia di questo monumento funerario e sulla sua reale posizione topografica.
