The aim of this paper is to examine the history of the excavations in the Distretto di Gaeta, during the second Bourbon Restoration, focusing on the discoveries relating to the ancient municipium of Formiae. The archival sources will be compared with the antiquarian evidence in order to define the effects of the Bourbon protection legislation and to analyse the contemporary antiquities trade, underlining the connections between the Capital and the Kingdom Periphery.
