The rise of innovative technologies and advanced systems deeply transformed the world of healthcare. Nowadays, both diagnoses and therapeutic options are strictly intertwined with engineered tools aimed to provide the most accurate outcome with the lowest percentage of side effects by exploiting physical phenomena. One of the current challenges is the implementation of innovative technologies in medical devices and the development of methodologies that could quantify their effectiveness before clinical trials. The ophthalmic field still presents unresolved questions: in order to discover the mechanisms that regulate the visual functions and to provide cutting-edge treatments, a multidisciplinary approach that involves biology, medicine, optics and bioengineering is fundamental. The contents of this work are the results of an industrial PhD granted by SIFI, an Italian manufacturer of ophthalmic products and pioneer in wavefront engineering technology applied to medical devices. Specifically, the corporate interest is to provide innovative therapeutic options to improve the patients’ quality of life. This thesis focuses on the characterization of an optical system that exploits wavefront technology to treat presbyopia and to provide spectacle independence, besides the more basic and common intended use which entails the vision restoration.

Abstract
This thesis focuses on the characterization of an optical system that exploits wavefront technology to treat presbyopia and to provide spectacle independence, besides the more basic and common intended use which entails the vision restoration.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
