Abstract
Since the 11th century, the episcopal complex of Siena underwent an almost uninterrupted sequence of building activity that profoundly affected its appearance. From the Romanesque cathedral of the 12th century to the great construction site of the 13th century, the building assumed, through a series of demolitions and renovations, the form of the religious complex visible today, completed in the second half of the 14th century. Beginning with an archaeological analysis of the historical structure (Archaeology of Architecture), the construction history of the building is framed within the changes of the hill on which the Duomo was founded as well as the surrounding urban context of reference (the city of Siena), with the aim of reconstructing the historical processes that determined its formation, identifying the exchanges that took place between the building site, its urban environment and the adjacent territory, which constituted the main source of craftsmen, labour and materialsPubblicazioni consigliate
