In 2018 and 2021, as part of the activities of the DiCAM of the University of Messina, two archaeological surveys were carried out in the territories of Laino Borgo (CS) and Castelluccio Inferiore (PZ), in order to better understand the settlement dynamics that have affected the area of the Castelluccio basin and the Lao-Mercure valley in the diachrony. The territory appears populated starting from the second half of the sixth century BC. by indigenous-oenotrian people. The site of S. Gada, which is spread over an area of about 40 hectares, can be read as a real central place, frequented by the second half of the sixth century BC. until the third century BC.
