Metal oxide materials have been applied as electrodes in electrochemical sensors for the control of environmental pollution, industrial safety, and biomedical analysis. Electrochemical sensors based on zirconium oxide (zirconia, ZrO2) as electrode material for the determination of biomolecules have been reported. However, efforts are still necessary to optimize the electrode material finding the right composition, which will help in improving the sensing performances. Concerning this theme, here, we analyze the electrochemical response of sensors based on an electrode material obtained combining ZrO2 with graphene oxide (GO). In the specific, modified ZrO2-based/SPCE sensor has been applied with good performances for the detection of tyrosine (Tyr), an amino acid helping the formation of proteins, hormones, and neurotransmitters in our body.
