Strawberries, being a high-value crop, require more eco-friendly cultivation methods due to their susceptibility to pests and diseases. Soilless cultivation systems (SCS) can be seen as an alternative over traditional in-soil cultivation. This study presents a comparative Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), performed using literature data, to identify key assumptions and key data needs, as well as to evaluate the potential environmental impact of both cultivation methods. The results suggest that SCS are more environmentally friendly. However, the scarcity of data on SCS and the omission of emissions data are notable limitations. Future studies should focus on these data for a more comprehensive assessment.

Abstract
Strawberries, being a high-value crop, require more eco-friendly cultivation methods due to their susceptibility to pests and diseases. Soilless cultivation systems (SCS) can be seen as an alternative over traditional in-soil cultivation. This study presents a comparative Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), performed using literature data, to identify key assumptions and key data needs, as well as to evaluate the potential environmental impact of both cultivation methods. The results suggest that SCS are more environmentally friendly. However, the scarcity of data on SCS and the omission of emissions data are notable limitations. Future studies should focus on these data for a more comprehensive assessment.Pubblicazioni consigliate
