In this study, the open-circuit (OC) voltage and short-circuit (SC) current generated by composites based on bacterial cellulose (BC), when used as deformation sensors, are investigated. The BC sensors consist of a three-layer structure: a BC membrane impregnated with ionic liquids, and conductive polymer electrodes on the opposite faces. This configuration generates OC voltage or SC current when mechanically deformed. The frequency response of composites impregnated with two different ionic liquids is analysed. Using a swept sinusoidal input signal, both the generated OC voltage and SC current are investigated. More specifically, among investigated composites, the highest sensitivity for the generated OC voltage was 0.66 mV/mm. Regarding the SC investigation, the highest sensitivity was 0.099 μA/mm.
