Abstract

The growing awareness of non-reproducibility of the existing architectural heritage has increased the urgency of using tools that are able to bring the intervention to the preservation of the environment in which it operates. The importance of the prior investigations for an adequate conservation plan gauged on the real needs of architectural artifacts determines the need for an expeditious method of reading the walls finalized to identify the phases of growth and management of the acquired datas with a specifically prepared to allow their use in preparing the conservation plan database. This allows, with the use of adequate filters, to extrapolate the informations to use for the formulation of design assumptions and ensuring compliance with the continuous monitoring of the correspondence between design and actual needs of the monument. This method, tested through the reading of archaeological stratigraphy of the norman church of St Maria at Mili S. Pietro, in the territory of Messina, was able to achieve unprecedented results.
