The effects of earthquake induced pore pressure on seismic and post seismic stability conditions of cohesionless slopes are investigated using a procedure recently proposed by Biondi et al.( 2001). A parametric analysis was performed using different slope conditions and different earthquake acceleration records. Seismic displacements were calculated using a modified Newmark sliding block model which takes into account the effect of pore pressure build-up on the reduction of slope critical acceleration. The results point out the effectiveness of the procedure in predicting the slope behaviour and the unreliability of the classical approach in predicting seismic slope behaviour if reduction of the soil shear strength occurs.

Abstract
The effects of earthquake induced pore pressure on seismic and post seismic stability conditions of cohesionless slopes are investigated using a procedure recently proposed by Biondi et al.( 2001). A parametric analysis was performed using different slope conditions and different earthquake acceleration records. Seismic displacements were calculated using a modified Newmark sliding block model which takes into account the effect of pore pressure build-up on the reduction of slope critical acceleration. The results point out the effectiveness of the procedure in predicting the slope behaviour and the unreliability of the classical approach in predicting seismic slope behaviour if reduction of the soil shear strength occurs.Pubblicazioni consigliate
