Dye systems, as porphyrins and related macrocycles, are characterized by stacking interactions. The monomers evidence large extinction coefficients and in some cases aggregation leads to the formation of large fractal structures exhibiting resonant light scattering. Such a phenomenon has shown to be a powerful tool in studying general properties of aggregation kinetics.
