This research has double objective. First, we analyze the regional discrepancies of productivity for the manufacturing industry. Second, we empirically investigate the hypothesis that exists a relationship between regional discrepancies and environmental factors. To calculate the productivity we used data, relative to 1991, sourced from the "Fifth Investigation on the Manufacturing Firm" of the Mediocredito Centrale. The sample considers 4135 firms. Our results show that productivity is regionally influenced by environmental conditions. Such an influence results marked in the traditional sectors characterized by the existence of small dimensions firms and in particular manner for the firms that only sell on the national market.
