The availability of a vaccine imposes choices of administration and methodology based on the need to assess certain factors such as the type of disease to fight, the seriousness of its symptoms, its incidence in the population and the degree and type of immunity induced in infected subjects. With the aim of contributing to drawing an epidemiological picture of the varicella situation in Italy and then outlining a useful strategy against infection, from January to December 2002 we carried out a seroepidemiological survey in a population sample from the city of Messina (Italy). The data obtained support those provided by other Authors, demonstrating a progressively increasing trend of varicella virus seroprevalance in function of age.

Abstract
The availability of a vaccine imposes choices of administration and methodology based on the need to assess certain factors such as the type of disease to fight, the seriousness of its symptoms, its incidence in the population and the degree and type of immunity induced in infected subjects. With the aim of contributing to drawing an epidemiological picture of the varicella situation in Italy and then outlining a useful strategy against infection, from January to December 2002 we carried out a seroepidemiological survey in a population sample from the city of Messina (Italy). The data obtained support those provided by other Authors, demonstrating a progressively increasing trend of varicella virus seroprevalance in function of age.Pubblicazioni consigliate
