Aim: this work investigates the case of a ten year old child affected by a numeric dental anomaly. The case report shows the pathologic condition characterised by the simultaneous presence of supernumerary and supplemental teeth. Methods: the anomaly was analysed to plan the best surgical and orthodontic treatment. Case Report: anamnesis, and clinical and instrumental examinations were carried out to perform diagnosis and orthodontic check-up. A young patient was affected by numeric dental anomaly in the upper jaw. We observed a higher number of teeth than usual; specifically two normal-form twin lateral permanent incisors and a non erupted mesiodens between the upper central incisors. Firstly, supplemental lateral teeth were extracted. This surgical therapy and the application of a space keeper were carried out to permit definitive canine eruption. The mesiodens also underwent surgical therapy, with an extraction. Finally, physiologic eruption of definitive teeth and orthodontic therapy were allowed due to the planned surgical-orthodontic treatment. Discussion: the aim of the orthodontic-surgery therapy was firstly, the surgical extraction of supernumerary teeth (also those not yet erupted) to obtain the physiologic eruption of permanent teeth. Orthodontic treatment is important to resolve malocclusions and create space for definitive teeth eruption. Conclusions: aesthetics and functionality are two important parameters for modern dentistry. All clinicians should try to make an opportune and rational diagnosis for both simple and complex dental pathologies., Invasive and surgical disinclusive techniques can be substituted by interceptive orthodontic treatment, particularly in young children.
