The equations governing the plane vibrations of a moving threadline are studied from the point of view of linear and nonlinear wave theory. Some exact solutions to the quasilinear hyperbolic associated model are obtained and a new evolution equation, found by applying a suitable reductive perturbation method, is investigated.
