We show that the addition of noise to chaotic one-dimensional maps may reduce the average orbital divergence and cause locally convergent orbits, thus making their synchronization possible. This phenomenon, however, is not a general one: in fact, we find that for a wide class of one-dimensional maps the presence of noise enhances, rather than reduces, orbital divergence.

Abstract
