The main objective of this work is to develop an alternative version of the DSMA procedure to improve the local measures of spatial autocorrelation. According to a distance decay model, we introduced a transform in the DSMA so that the spatial weights generated are sensitive to the effective distance of each territorial unit. Finally, an application related to the railway density of 107 Italian provinces is discussed.
