Zeolite catalysts of the faujasite type were prepd. with a supported active component of the type P-V-O (P/V = 1.0) as well as, for comparison, with supported compds. of either V or P alone. The catalysts were characterized by IR spectra in the region of the skeletal vibrations of the zeolite and by the sorption capacities for Ar. The catalytic behavior of the zeolite catalysts, of the unsupported active component as well as of the pure H-faujasite in the selective oxidn. of butadiene is discussed in detail. An important role in the supported catalysts is played by the active sites formed by the interactions of the acidobasic centers of the zeolite with V, these new sites giving the possibility of the formation of furan. The interaction of V with the zeolite weakens the stabilizing effect of P on the valence state of V; this explains the very low selectivity of the supported catalysts for the formation of maleic anhydride. Abstract
