This is the case of a patient who, 12 years after a CMT1A diagnosis, experienced a rapidly disabling increase of painful distal weakness associated with lumbosacral nerve root hypertrophy and marked Gd-DTPA enhancement on MRI examination. Spinal roots and plexus hypertrophy have been reported on MRI in patients with long-duration chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) in which gadolinium enhancement is associated with an active phase of the disease.
