The title compound has been obtained by treating [Rh2(η- C5H5)2(μ-CO)(μ-dppm)] [dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)-methane] with HgCl2, and characterized by spectroscopic and X-ray analyses; it represents the first example of mercury(II) chloride bridging two transition metal atoms in a complex.
