Abstract

An extensive experimental study of sound velocity and thermal expansion was carried out for a wide variety of AgI-Ag2O-B2O3-P2O5 superionic glasses. Measurements were made in the 77-340 K temperature range and at a frequency of 5 MHz. A combination of thermally activated relaxation and anharmonic processes seems to describe the velocity behaviour well. In addition, the elastic constants at room temperature show that the structure softens with increasing AgI content.
