The authors report measurements of the acoustic absorption coefficient in electrolytic solutions of CdCl2 in water. The measurements were performed as a function of frequency, concentration and temperature. Relaxation phenomena were observed which are discussed in terms of the collective structural properties of the system. For this purpose a formalism is developed that allows them to treat the relaxation in terms of a 'quasi-unimolecular' reaction. From the relaxed part of the absorption coefficient some information concerning the bulk viscosity is obtained which confirms the collective point of view. The results obtained are also discussed in the context of a number of other experimental results concerning the same system and obtained with different techniques.

Abstract
The authors report measurements of the acoustic absorption coefficient in electrolytic solutions of CdCl2 in water. The measurements were performed as a function of frequency, concentration and temperature. Relaxation phenomena were observed which are discussed in terms of the collective structural properties of the system. For this purpose a formalism is developed that allows them to treat the relaxation in terms of a 'quasi-unimolecular' reaction. From the relaxed part of the absorption coefficient some information concerning the bulk viscosity is obtained which confirms the collective point of view. The results obtained are also discussed in the context of a number of other experimental results concerning the same system and obtained with different techniques.Pubblicazioni consigliate
