Ribavirin is a nucleoside analogue able to inhibit the replication of DNA and RNA viruses at concentrations which do not produce any toxic effects on cells. In order to investigate whether ribavirin would be able to improve the intrinsic capability of macrophages to hinder virus replication, a series of experiments was performed on rat peritoneal and human macrophages. The results obtained demonstrate an improvement of macrophage intrinsic antiviral activity versus herpes simplex virus type 1, adenovirus type 17 and measles virus, carried out by ribavirin.

Abstract
Ribavirin is a nucleoside analogue able to inhibit the replication of DNA and RNA viruses at concentrations which do not produce any toxic effects on cells. In order to investigate whether ribavirin would be able to improve the intrinsic capability of macrophages to hinder virus replication, a series of experiments was performed on rat peritoneal and human macrophages. The results obtained demonstrate an improvement of macrophage intrinsic antiviral activity versus herpes simplex virus type 1, adenovirus type 17 and measles virus, carried out by ribavirin.File in questo prodotto:
