The antiarrhythmic action of extracts prepared with different solvents from various parts - shoots, leaves, flowers, flowers and leaves - of Crataegus oxyacantha L. has been studied in rats. All the preparations, administered at doses corresponding to the same quantity of dried drug, showed a protective action with regard to the arrhythmias induced by aconitine, as also by adrenaline-chloroform and calcium chloride. Glycero-ethanolic or methanolic macerates obtained from shoots showed the highest protective action. Chloroformic extracts and those prepared from leaves with different solvents gave weaker protection.
