The effects on the heart rate and arterial blood pressure in normotensive and in DOCA hypertensive rats of preparations from shoots and leaves of Olea europaea L. and of oleuropein, one of its active principles, have been studied. All of the tested preparations caused significative decrease of the arterial blood pressure, both in normotensive and hypertensive rats. The glycero-ethanolic macerate of the leaves shoved the best activity, and in any case the effects were stronger in DOCA hypertensive rats. Also, in DOCA hypertensive rats significative increase of the contraction rate observed. The protective action agonist arrythmias induced by aconitine has also been valued.
