The aim of this study was to investigate hematological profile and iron status in athletic horse during exercise training. For this purpose 17 Thoroughbred were used. Blood samples were collected on each horse at the start of the training and every 20 days for 80 days. RBC, PCV, Hb, MCV, MCH, MCHC, serum iron, ferritin and transferrin were measured. The application of repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni multiple comparison test showed a statistically significant difference of RBC, PCV, MCH, MCHC, serum iron, sFerritin and transferrin due to the different time points. No statistical difference was found for MCV and Hb. The application of linear regression model showed a significant negative linear correlation between serum ferritin and transferrin, MCV and MCHC, and serum ferritin and MCH. A significant positive linear regression was found between transferrin and MCH. The results obtained showed a significant influence of exercise on iron status and the utility of measurement of iron profile during exercise training in athletic horse.
